The Spark

When I was younger, I was good at this.

I'd surprise my now wife with flowers, new shoes, a bag I'd spotted and thought — that's her. Spontaneous, considered, chosen with love.

Then life got busy. A career. A mortgage. A daughter. Somewhere in that busyness, those moments quietly stopped.

Not because I cared less — but because life filled every gap, and there was no system to hold the space for those moments. Birthdays and anniversaries started creeping up faster than I could prepare for them. The sudden panic. The last-minute dash for a gift and a card.

I wanted to do better. Not just for the obvious occasions — but for the quiet in-between moments too. The times you should give a gift simply because you want to. No occasion necessary.

AGLAEA started as a reminder to myself. That the people you love deserve to feel it.

Building something I genuinely needed.

I built AGLAEA because I needed it more than most people. I wanted to reconnect with that version of myself who was thoughtful by nature — and create something that could help other busy people do the same.

Becoming a girl dad changed everything. I think about legacy in a way I never did before. The example I set. The kind of partner my daughter will one day expect — partly a reflection of what she grew up believing she deserves.

I want her to grow up knowing that a man can be caring, loving, and generous — not just when occasions demand it, but as a way of being. AGLAEA is, in some small way, part of living that out.

The Philosophy

The most meaningful gift isn't on the calendar.

For me, the "just because" moments are the most undervalued of all. That feeling of seeing someone's face light up when a gift arrives completely unexpectedly — that little signal that says "I've been thinking of you."

Not tied to an occasion. Not prompted by a calendar. Just because you wanted to make them feel something. To me, that's one of the most meaningful things you can do for another person.

Why We Built This

A gift from Moonpig is an afterthought.

It's a convenient solution, but it rarely feels meaningful. When I give a gift, I want to have spent time thinking about it — making sure it's right for that person and that occasion.

There are platforms with better product selection. But none of them also remind you that the occasion is approaching. That's the gap AGLAEA fills — a platform that does both: curating genuinely considered gifts, and making sure you never miss the moment to give one.

The Name

Why AGLAEA?

AGLAEA was one of the three Graces in Greek mythology — the Charites. She was known as the gift-giver: the one who arranged celebrations and entertainment for guests, always thinking of others before herself.

That spirit of generosity and thoughtfulness felt like exactly the right foundation for what we're building. It's a name with genuine meaning, and one we're proud to carry.
